McLennan Community College’s Alternative Teacher Certification program has received the Rigorous and Robust Preparation Commendation from the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). MCC’s program was the only one in the state to receive this commendation.
The commendation was based on surveys conducted by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) of school principals on the campuses of first-year teachers across the state. MCC’s program received positive ratings from 95% of principals who considered MCC’s first-year teachers as “sufficiently or well prepared” in categories such as Learning Environment, Planning, Instruction, Professional Practices/Responsibilities, Teaching Emergent Bilingual students, and Teaching Students with Disabilities.
Laura Conrad, the Program Director, expressed her pride in the program’s effort to prepare effective teachers and partnerships with local school districts to support teacher candidates throughout their first year of teaching.
