A fatal multi-vehicle accident occurred on April 6 at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Boulevard and Venable Drive, resulting in the deaths of two children, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Killeen Fire Department units were dispatched at 6:09 p.m. and arrived on the scene within five minutes. They discovered two heavily damaged vehicles and a total of six patients. The response was immediately upgraded, bringing additional emergency vehicles and personnel to the scene.
Four patients were treated and transported to area hospitals in critical condition, while two patients were treated on-site and chose not to be transported for further evaluation. Emergency responders from various departments, including Darnall EMS, Fort Hood Fire Department, Killeen Police Department, and Air Evac 66, provided assistance. No injuries to fire or EMS personnel were reported.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is leading the accident investigation. According to their press release, a 2004 Chevrolet pickup, driven by a 17-year-old male from Killeen, was traveling westbound on Bus.US 190 when it made a U-turn in the path of a 2020 Chevrolet Sonic and a 2017 Ford F-350, both traveling eastbound. The pickup collided with both vehicles, resulting in the deaths of a 10-year-old male and an 8-year-old male, passengers in the Chevrolet Sonic. The drivers of the pickup and the Sonic were transported for serious injuries, while the condition of the Ford F-350 driver remains unknown.
